All Natural Anti-Inflammatory Balm
For the past five summers, when I go to the island to clean and prepare the cabins for another season, I have been making a devil’s club balm. The plant itself is a nasty work of creation. It has two different kinds of thorns on it. The stalk has thorns similar to a rose and the bottom of the leaves are covered by tiny hairs like fiberglass. I used to use loppers to cut the devil’s club back every summer so my guests wouldn’t get impaled by them. One summer it occured to me that I should be doing something with them. I Googled it and found a process for making balm. I ordered some beeswax, mineral oil, and tins and made plans for production.

My first few batches were experiments in quantities. When I thought I had the recipe right, I let a guest who suffered from fibromyalgia try it. He felt immediate relief in his knees and bought a large quantity to take home with him. And so, my balm making and selling business was born. Now I sell my balm in North Pole at vendor events and on Etsy. I have heard many amazing testimonials, as well as seeing with my own eyes the relief people feel when they try it at an event. One of my friends told me that when she massaged the balm onto her neck it took away her migraine. Another friend told me he was receiving steroid shots in his knees for arthritis, but after using the balm he doesn’t need the shots anymore.

I believe this balm has a shelf life. If you get some, don’t use it sparingly. DIG IT OUT! Rub it into the area where something hurts and it will go right through your skin and target the pain. It is a little greasy, but just wipe your palms off on a paper towel after you apply it. The relief is almost instantaneous. It is my experience that after a year the effectiveness starts to tone down, but find out for yourself. If it starts to smell like old oil, it is definitely done. You will love the stuff!
